武汉协和医院历史悠久，创建于1866年，是近150年来一直扎根于湖北的国家综合性教学医院，是国内的顶级医疗机构之一。

Brief introduction of Wuhan Union Hospital

Wuhan Union Hospital, founded in 1866, is a state-owned comprehensive teaching hospital. Settled up in Wuhan for 150 years,  it is one of the top healthcare organizations in China.

Wuhan Union Hospital is a large-scale hospital with the land of more than 3000 acres, consisting of four divisions: the Headquarters, the Tumor Center, the West Branch, and the International Hospital (under construction). There are currently 4,800 licensed beds, 57 clinical departments and 115 research institutes/laboratories/clinical research centers. The headquarter is located in the central bustling area of Wuhan with Zhongshan Park Metro Station set right under the outpatient building. It is not only convenient for the patients in Wuhan, but also reachable to cities in Hubei within 3 hours and most cities of China within 5 hours.

The hospital has a remarkable group of more than 6,500 staff and professionals, 230 of whom are medical experts with senior professional titles, and 344 are with deputy senior professional titles. Wuhan Union Hospital is equipped with the most advanced technologies, including the state-of-the-art IMAT linear accelerator, the most advanced double-source CT in Central and Southern China, the first PET-CT and 3TMRI in Central and Southern China, digital operating rooms, the biggest ICU of Department of Cardiac Surgery in China, and internationally advanced equipments which are about to be set up such as MRI-PET, providing reliable basis and guarantee for diagnosing and treating patients. The hospital has the advantages in specialists and disciplines with 7 National Key Disciplines, 3 Naitonal Key Disciplines (Nurture) and 25 Naitonal Key Clinical Specialties. It has successfully conducted the first adult “bare-heart” operation in the world, the first siamese sisters ischial separation in China, the first minimally invasive surgery of reconstruction of vagina with sigmoid in China, and the first 3D vision guided total hip replacement in China. In 2014, 84 cardiac transplants were performed with a mortality rate of 0, which ranks 1st in the world. The hospital is also strong in general service capability. Four million people are served annually, making it one of the busiest healthcare organizations nationwide.

Wuhan Union Hospital recognizes the importance of innovative research, since establishing a leading research hospital is one of our key development strategies. Based on a huge data of medical records, solid foundation and sound environment for science and research, we have 350 papers indexed by SCI this year, and won more than 100 grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, which is the top 3 in China with total scientific research funds of over RMB 100 million.
